Description
Develop and present an orientation course to all new employees and an on-going education program for all personnel at the Facility by means of lectures, demonstrations, classroom instruction and observation of varied work performance. An important aspect of the work is the practical guidance and training provided to employees while setting an example on the clinical area. Work is reviewed through meetings, observation, period reports and review of results achieved.
Tasks
- Provides classroom instructions to the Nurse Aide students in the techniques and methods used in the nursing profession. Creates, updates and revises exams to be used in the classroom.
- Supervises Nurse Aide Class members on the clinical area for 11 days of each 17 day training cycle.
- Prepares evaluations and/or work performances for all new Nurse Aides.
- Provides classroom orientation to all new employees.
- Provides clinical instruction for the new certified Nurse Aides and licensed personnel.
- Prepares course outlines, reviews evaluations of courses and revises course outlines, as appropriate.
- Coordinates Nurse Aide Certification exams.
- Assists department heads in identifying training needs of employees.
- Offers leadership on safety issues at the Facility and is a participating member of the Safety Committee.
- Maintains and cares for audio-visual equipment used at the Facility.
- Utilizes the computer system for Staff Development record keeping.
- Trains in nursing procedures, concepts and skills on the nursing units.
- Performs research of material on nursing care and issues.
- Conducts risk management counseling of individuals as directed by DON or ADON.
- Maintains nurse aide class files as required by Department of Education.
- Revises and/or drafts forms for the Nurse Aide Class, Job Induction and All Day Seminars.
- Plans the facility staff training schedule
- Assesses work of departments to determine training necessary to help employees of such departments understand their role as it relates to resident care
- Ascertains courses which would assist nursing and other personnel to improve the level of resident care
- Contacts an arranges for speakers at in-service education programs
- Teaches concepts and skills
- Establishes the mandated in-services annually to comply with state and federal regulations and current organizational needs
- Provides selected competency training and testing of all licensed nurses and nurse aides
- Have ability to manage stress tolerance, pressure and anxiety.
Qualifications / Education
- Associate’s degree from an accredited school of nursing is necessary. Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- RN license is required. Employee must be in good standing with the state. Possession of a current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers CPR certificate is preferred. "Train The Trainer" certificate and thirty (30) hours of continuing education required every two years.
- Sufficient experience in order to perform daily tasks with an understanding of the duties involved. Minimum of one year long-term care experience is required.
