Description

Responsible for management of the nursing service department and for the direction and supervision of all nursing service functions and activities. Responsible for the quality of resident care and ensures that sufficient and properly prepared personnel carry out the functions of nursing service. Is knowledgeable of social, economical and legal issues affecting the health care systems and seeks all opportunities for keeping staff up-to-date in health care practices. Develops, directs the implementation and ensures compliance of standard of nursing practice that promotes optimum health care delivery.

Tasks

  • Makes rounds to assess quality of resident care;
  • Ensure all nursing units are staffed according to residents needs;
  • Recruit, interview new licensed employees; and terminate employees, as needed;
  • Attend and be active in the following meetings, as needed: Department Heads, Infection Control, Resident Centered Conferences, Policy & Procedures Committee, QA, Medical Staff, Board Meetings;
  • Deal with employee problems (counsel & monitor);
  • Direct and monitor to determine adequate documentation is being done on a daily basis, as well as on Workers' Compensation;
  • Investigate complaints concerning nursing service;
  • Promote harmonious relationships and favorable attitudes among health care team;
  • Plan and cooperate with Administration on special projects, as requested;
  • Collaborate with Medical Director to assure quality care is given to all residents;
  • Work with Infection Control Nurse to ensure high standards of cleanliness;
  • Develop policies and procedures to achieve quality care to residents;
  • Development of job descriptions for all nursing personnel;
  • Prepare evaluations for supervisory personnel; and review and sign all evaluations. Maintain a safety, fire and disaster program in cooperation with administration;
  • Conduct staff meetings and supervisors meetings.
  • Be responsible for appropriate health and safety rules related to the work environment of the
  • employees within the department.

Qualifications / Education

  • Current Pennsylvania RN license
  • Experience as a head nurse/unit management or supervisor
  • Must have a working knowledge of nursing service, administration, rehabilitation, nursing care and geriatric nursing; a degree in nursing administration is helpful; knowledge of state and federal regulations.
