Description
Provide supervision to nursing staff and professional nursing care to residents as prescribed by a physician and in accordance with nursing practices standards and registered nurse scope of practice.
Tasks
- Supervises nursing staff in the day-to-day delivery of resident care, including: scheduling job assignments, developing nursing unit priorities, participating in recruitment and selection of nursing staff, orienting new nursing staff, communicating policies and procedures, implementing planned changes, documenting call-offs, arranging for unit staffing needs on the shift, communication of resident issues requiring physician direction to the attending physician, communication of resident change in condition and physician orders to the resident responsible party, providing feedback to staff, evaluating staff job performance, counseling and disciplining employees, as necessary.
- Monitors and assesses all aspects of resident care, including work performance of nursing staff, efficiency of services provided, according to physician’s orders, care plans, established standards of care and Facility policies and procedures.
- Administers medication and treatments according to physician’s orders, care plans, and the Facility’s established policies and procedures.
- Assesses residents’ physical and emotional status and documents any changes in the medical records.
- Works cooperatively as part of a health care interdisciplinary team to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate resident care plans.
- Modifies resident care plans in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team as indicated by residents’ responses and conditions.
- Uses problem-solving skills to make improvements in the delivery of resident care in collaboration with the Director Of Nursing Services.
- Maintains a safe work environment and exhibits safe work practices in accordance with Facility policies and procedures, including monitoring infection control techniques to prevent the spread of communicable diseases and ensuring that fire and disaster procedures are followed in the case of an emergency.
- Communicates with residents, residents’ family members, and interdisciplinary team members and management regarding resident status.
Qualifications / Education
- Associate’s degree from an accredited school of nursing is necessary. Completion of Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Current RN license is required. Employee must be in good standing with the state. Possession of a current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers CPR certificate is required.
- Sufficient experience in order to perform daily tasks with an understanding of the duties involved. Prior experience as a Staff Nurse is required. A minimum of one year as a Charge Nurse or supervisory experience in an assisted living facility is preferred.
