Description
Responsible for the management of an assigned caseload of clientele for recovery oriented peer support services. The specialist will establish a trusting and respectful working relationship with peers through the sharing of life experiences with mental illness, the mental health system, drug and alcohol recovery, and/or forensic history. This will be done in coordination with the Certified Peer Support Supervisor (CPSS) by performing the following duties as outlined in this job description. The Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) will also works under the supervision of the Director of a non-profit community based program. This position will develop and maintain supportive relationships with persons served. These relationships are essential to establishing the individual’s strengths and goals; identifying barriers, recovery strategies and alternatives to making choices about medication and treatment; and providing links to community resources. The primary responsibility of a certified peer specialist is to help individuals identify and achieve their recovery goals and meet their specific goals while assisting them in identifying and developing a natural support system. The certified peer specialist may also facilitates recovery groups and participates in panel presentations to assist in education of recovery principles. Certified Peer Specialist will also have the opportunity to further their training and education of recovery focused topics and they will maintain departmental/agencies documentation and records.
Tasks
- Complete intake paperwork and releases promptly to support authorization, admission, and billing.
- Document encounters and data within 24–72 hours in a timely and professional manner.
- Ensure progress notes align with ISP, describe service, outcomes, and plan for the next session.
- Maintain accurate case notes for all client, team, and external contacts.
Qualifications / Education
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be a former or current mental health consumer.
- Must possess certification as a Peer Specialist and have a high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
- Demonstrated proficiency in reading, writing and use of personal computers.
- One year paid or volunteer experience within the past two (2) years.
