Description

Responsible for management of the nursing service department and for the direction and supervision of all nursing service functions and activities. Responsible for the quality of resident care and ensures that sufficient and properly prepared personnel carry out the functions of nursing service. Is knowledgeable of social, economical and legal issues affecting the health care systems and seeks all opportunities for keeping staff up-to-date in health care practices. Develops, directs the implementation and ensures compliance of standard of nursing practice that promotes optimum health care delivery.

Tasks

  • Make rounds to assess resident care quality and ensure nursing units meet resident needs.
  • Recruit, interview, and terminate licensed employees as needed; handle employee issues.
  • Attend meetings: Dept Heads, Infection Control, Resident Conferences, QA, Medical Staff, Board.
  • Monitor documentation daily, including Workers’ Compensation reports and complaint investigations.
  • Promote teamwork, collaborate with Medical Director and Infection Control Nurse for quality care.
  • Develop nursing policies, job descriptions, and conduct staff & supervisor meetings.
  • Manage safety, fire, and disaster programs; prepare and review evaluations for supervisory staff.

Qualifications / Education

  • Current Pennsylvania RN license
  • Experience as a head nurse/unit management or supervisor
  • Must have a working knowledge of nursing service, administration, rehabilitation, nursing care and geriatric nursing; a degree in nursing administration is helpful; knowledge of state and federal regulations.
