Certified Surgical First Assist (CST)

Responsible and accountable for sorting, assembling, and handing surgical instruments and supplies throughout the preoperative period. The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) provides patient care and performs appropriate segments of the prescribed medical regime for an assigned group of patients and effectively interacts within patients, significant others, and other health care team workers while maintaining standards of care.

• Act as the first assistant during surgeries.
• Help surgeon with handling instruments, suturing, and controlling bleeding.
• Ensure that all surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment are sterile, organized, and ready for use.
• Assist in positioning patients on the operating table to ensure optimal access for the surgeon.
• Provide support postoperative by monitoring patients as they wake anesthesia.

• Graduate of approved Surgical Technology Program
• Previous perioperative experience
• Surgical Technologist Certification
• Healthcare Provider (CPR) certification within 6 months of start in department/position
