Description

Responsible for providing support and guidance to individuals enrolled in the LTSR program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: providing orientation to clients in programs and/or services that might be unfamiliar to them, both individually and in groups; assisting individuals in identifying recovery goals; assisting individuals in selecting services and/or program offerings that will be useful in achieving their recovery goals; offering support and mentoring as needed in the implementation of the recovery plan; exploring, securing and utilizing each clients’ support network and/or community resources; medication monitoring; and, crisis intervention. The incumbent is also responsible for facilitating the development of Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP) with program participants to promote the recovery process. The Certified Peer Specialist, along with every member of the LTSR team, must adhere to the fidelity standards, DPW regulations, and the policies and procedures established by the organization.

Tasks

  • Provides accurate info to clients about programs and community resources, guiding access and use.
  • Uses recovery principles and personal experience to help clients identify recovery goals and WRAP plans.
  • Builds rapport with clients, showing empathy and objectivity during recovery and crisis plan development.
  • Supports clients in following recovery plans, educating on benefits and modeling active participation.
  • Helps clients explore and use community services, encouraging resource use and natural support networks.
  • Accompanies clients to resources, offering mentoring and support as needed for successful access.
  • Advocates for client rights; provides feedback on program operations; links to advocacy and healthcare support.

Qualifications / Education

  • High school diploma or equivalency and one year (1) paid or volunteer experience within the past two (2) years
  • Must be 18 years of age or older. Must be a former or current mental health consumer
  • Must possess certification as a Peer Specialist
