Description
This position is responsible for working collaboratively with providers and team members to ensure efficient, quality care delivery consistent with the mission of Universal Primary Care. This position is responsible for the duties associated with an acting Director of Nursing within the organization. This position directly oversees and manages the patient services team, Medical Referrals Coordinators, Prior Authorization Specialist, Registered Nurses, Care Coordination Supervisor, and the Nursing Supervisor.
Tasks
- Plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates all nursing, patient services, and care coordination department activities ensuring high quality care and patient access to care.
- Assists with department work schedules to provide appropriate staffing levels at multiple sites for nursing, patient services, and care coordination departments.
- Ensures provider engagement and relationship are a top priority, checking in with providers frequently regarding their clinic schedules.
- Assumes responsibility and accountability to analyze and evaluate clinical and operational workflow, procedures, and processes to ensure effectiveness and efficiencies.
- Develops, maintains, and implements policies and procedures that conform to current standards of nursing practice, , patient services, care coordination, quality, , and operational policies while maintaining compliance with state and federal rules and regulations
- Interprets and communicates policies and procedures to team members including but not limited to nursing, patient services, risk management, care coordination, quality, and monitors staff practices to ensure compliance.
- Identifies ways to improve communications and relationships among clinical staff at all sites which may include a consistent schedule of visits to all off-site locations
- Continually evaluates and identifies educational needs and develops training programs to address needs.
- Ensures assigned department team members are competent to complete their duties adequately and safely for assigned department oversight.
- Possesses appropriate financial knowledge to maintain department budget that supports the organizational success by monitoring and managing department budget within the financial thresholds. Training will be provided.
- Identifies issues/performance improvement opportunities (proactively and reactively) and creates an appropriate forum for team members to create solutions/learn relevant information and processes
- Collaborates with organizational clinical and administrative team members to improve the quality of services.
- Interacts courteously with patients, family members, colleagues, providers, vendors, and community representatives
- Assumes responsibility and accountability for Vaccines for Children (VFC) program. May delegate immunizations/vaccine reporting and inventory to other nursing staff as appropriate.
- Aids in identifying actions to increase patient volume, access, and profitability improvement by analyzing patient flow, needs, accessibility, etc.
- Coordinates appropriate front office registration efforts and ensures verification processes are completed and accurate patient information and insurance coverage are on file.
- Assists and/or leads facility inspections as appropriate, including but not limited to site visits from Department of Health, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and Federal Tort claims Act (FTCA).
- Works with the Chief Medical Officer on Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement Activities:
- Working closely with internal committees to develop and evaluate quality improvement projects
- Develop and monitor patient safety programs
- Prepare data for presentations to various committees
- Supervisor Responsibilities:
- Accomplishes department objectives by supervising employees and organizing and monitoring work processes.
- Visits all clinic sites at least monthly and as needed to address team concerns.
- Maintains employee recruiting, selecting, orienting and training employees and developing personal growth opportunities.
- Accomplishes employee job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees.
- Conducts performance appraisals
- Conducts training
- Implements and enforces policy and procedures
- Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by establishing and enforcing organization standards and adhering to legal regulations.
- Develops schedules, assigning and monitoring work, gathers resources, and resolves problems.
Qualifications / Education
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Must hold unrestricted NY and PA Registered Nurse licensure
- Bachelor’s in nursing required.
- Five (5) years of clinical nursing management experience required.
- Successful completion of Basic Life Safety (BLS) and Infection Control training required
- Previous supervisory experience required
- Knowledge of clinical nursing standards and practices, care management activities, duties, and responsibilities in an FQHC preferred
- Master’s in nursing preferred.
- FQHC knowledge and risk management experience preferred
- Financial management (budgets, supply management) preferred
