Description

The medical assistant is responsible for administrative and basic clinical duties under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, licensed physician, or other licensed health care provider with legal authority.

Tasks

  • Interviews patients to obtain medical information.
  • Escorts patients to exam rooms and prepares them for the physician or other health care provider.
  • Measures and records vital signs, including height, weight, blood pressure.
  • Records patients’ medical history in medical records.
  • Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.
  • Assists provider with treatments, procedures within scope of practice
  • Takes inventory of medical supplies and restocks rooms.
  • Maintains inventory of clean linens.
  • Washes dirty linens. 
  • Provides education material to patients. 
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential. 
  • Maintains current credentialing.
  • Assists provider in completing paperwork/forms in a timely manner (assigned to provider(s) as folder manager).
  • Completes appropriate and timely charting. 
  • Participates in quality assurance activities.
Attends required meetings. 

Qualifications / Education

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of a medical assistant or similar nursing program from an accredited institution
  • Certification in medical assisting preferred 
  • Pennsylvania 'You Call The Shots' certification preferred
  • Previous experience in a medical practice preferred
