Description
Develop, implement and improve powder metallurgy processes focusing on material characterization, processing techniques, and ensuring product quality and performance
Tasks
Selects appropriate metal powders and additives for specific applications based on desired properties and performance requirements. Develops new powder metallurgy processes and materials to meet evolving needs.
Optimizes powder processing parameters (e.g., compaction pressure, sintering temperature, time) to achieve desired microstructure and properties. Implements and validates process improvements to enhance efficiency and product quality.
Conducts material characterization studies to determine powder properties (e.g., particle size distribution, flowability). Performs mechanical and physical testing of powder compacts and sintered parts to assess performance.
Uses various analytical techniques (e.g., microscopy, XRD, elemental analysis) to evaluate material structure and composition. Identifies and resolves issues related to powder processing, compaction, sintering, and product performance.
Provides technical support to production and quality control teams. Collaborates with cross-functional teams (e.g., engineering, manufacturing, quality) to ensure successful product development and manufacturing.
Communicates technical findings and recommendations clearly and concisely. Identifies opportunities for process improvement and innovation in powder metallurgy. Keeps abreast of industry trends and advancements in powder metallurgy technologies.

Qualifications / Education
B.S. Degree in materials science, metallurgical engineering or related field. Strong understanding of powder metallurgy principles and processes. Knowledge of mechanical testing of powder metals. Good problem solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and inter-personal skills as well as the ability to work independently or part as a team.
