Description
The Regional Forester is responsible for the planning and implementation of forest management activities on roughly half (58,000 acres) of the Collins Pennsylvania Forest. This includes forest compartment planning and activity implementation, contractor supervision, invasive species management, and oil and gas field supervision, as well as other forest management activities.
Tasks
- Perform harvest block layout using exam data to assess forest conditions and stand types.
- Plan forest compartments for roads and future forest management activities.
- Assess regeneration pre/post-harvest to guide future harvesting decisions.
- Supervise contractors for herbicide, roads, regen surveys, and timber marking.
- Use GPS/GIS tools for data collection and updating internal forestry databases.
- Manage oil/gas assets; coordinate with contractors on roads and timber damage.
- Maintain boundaries; mark timber; direct Forest Technicians in the field as needed.
Qualifications / Education
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate team members.
- Proficient using GPS and ArcGIS technology.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to perform rigorous, field-based work in all weather conditions, on steep, brush-filled terrain.
- Bachelorās degree in forestry or a similar field with a minimum of five (5) years of experience or an associate degree in forestry and seven (7) years of experience.
