Lumber Inspector Grading - Sawmill

Description

The Lumber Inspector applies the requisite grading rules of the NHLA to identify grades of lumber.

Tasks

  • Follow safety standards and report or correct any observed safety hazards at all times.
  • Assign lumber grades per company and NHLA guidelines to ensure consistent quality.
  • Communicate with inspectors and supervisors for ongoing education and skill development.
  • Stay current on lumber markets and product values to inform grading decisions.
  • Mark lumber for trimming to maximize value; verify stamp legibility on products.
  • Report manufacturing defects and assist in inspecting completed units for accuracy.
  • Help train Entry Lumber Inspectors; perform additional duties as assigned; on-site attendance essential.

Qualifications / Education

  • Hold a Hardwood Lumber Inspector certificate from the National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) or have the equivalent experience.
  • Ability to follow all company, state and federal safety rules when performing required job duties.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal history check and a pre-employment drug screening.
