Description
The Lumber Inspector applies the requisite grading rules of the NHLA to identify grades of lumber.
Tasks
- Follow safety standards and report or correct any observed safety hazards at all times.
- Assign lumber grades per company and NHLA guidelines to ensure consistent quality.
- Communicate with inspectors and supervisors for ongoing education and skill development.
- Stay current on lumber markets and product values to inform grading decisions.
- Mark lumber for trimming to maximize value; verify stamp legibility on products.
- Report manufacturing defects and assist in inspecting completed units for accuracy.
- Help train Entry Lumber Inspectors; perform additional duties as assigned; on-site attendance essential.
Qualifications / Education
- Hold a Hardwood Lumber Inspector certificate from the National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) or have the equivalent experience.
- Ability to follow all company, state and federal safety rules when performing required job duties.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal history check and a pre-employment drug screening.
