Description

The Assistant Filer learns to maintain sawmill and planing mill saws, knives and related equipment and assists in changing of saws and knives. This individual also learns to aid in troubleshooting manufacturing defects during production shifts.

Tasks

  • Always follow safety standards and report or correct any safety hazards found in the work area.
  • Train to use and maintain saw/knife grinding, leveling, tensioning, and welding equipment.
  • Learn to align sawing/chipping equipment, cutting tolerances, and lubricate bearings properly.
  • Operate forklifts and mobile equipment as needed, following training and safety protocols.
  • Read and interpret service manuals and technical guides to support equipment maintenance.
  • Keep work area clean and perform maintenance to ensure a safe and efficient environment.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned; reliable, on-site attendance is essential for all duties.

Qualifications / Education

  • Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.
  • Ability to understand and operate hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments preferred.
  • Ability to understand decimals, fractions, and read a measuring tape.
  • Ability to follow all company, state and federal safety rules when performing required job duties.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal history check and a pre-employment drug screening.
