Description
The Regional Forester is responsible for the planning and implementation of forest management activities on roughly half (58,000 acres) of the Collins Pennsylvania Forest. This includes forest compartment planning and activity implementation, contractor supervision, invasive species management, and oil and gas field supervision, as well as other forest management activities.
Tasks
- Perform harvest block layout by using compartment exam data to identify forest conditions and types.
- Identify forest compartment planning for future road infrastructure and forest management activities.
- Access pre and post harvest regeneration to make decisions for future harvesting.
- Supervise outside contractors to include herbicide, road, regen survey, and marking.
- Use a GPS/ GIS system for data collection and internal database.
- Identify and treat invasive species.
- Manage oil and gas company assets. Collaborate with oil and gas contractors on company property in regard to roads, timber damage and other needs.
- Maintain and paint boundary lines as needed.
- Mark timber as needed in the absence of technicians.
- Perform additional duties as required by supervisor.
- On-site attendance is essential to effectively perform the listed duties and responsibilities.
- Provide in-field direction to Forest Technicians when applicable.
Qualifications / Education
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate team members.
- Proficient using GPS and ArcGIS technology.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to perform rigorous, field-based work in all weather conditions, on steep, brush-filled terrain.
- Bachelorās degree in forestry or a similar field with a minimum of five (5) years of experience or an associate degree in forestry and seven (7) years of experience.
