Description
The Log Sales Supervisor focuses on the sale of veneer, prime, and saw logs. This individual will also supervise the Log Technician.
Tasks
- Prepare and administer log sales by: carefully inspecting logs for a variety of parameters such as length, diameter, and possible defects,
- preparing and pricing sale logs according to probable markets to obtain the highest possible value,
- negotiating the final sale prices for any logs being sold,
- preparing invoices and verifying payment,
- accurately entering and reviewing data, and
- maintaining the HMT1 (Head Mounted Tablet) and printers.
- Supervise log yard scalers and equipment operators, see that regular check scales of delivered logs occur, set work schedules, approve time records for team members, and maintain log yard and equipment including rolling stock and electronic equipment used in scaling and data recording.
- Maintain accurate daily and monthly log volume inventories and ensure proper turnover of inventory to minimize log degradation.
- Work closely with the Operations Manager, Maintenance Supervisor, accounting department, Harvest Manager, and Procurement Supervisor
- Arrange for stonework and road maintenance in the log yard.
- Arrange for plowing with a log lift after significant snowfall events (greater than 5”).
- Perform additional duties as required by supervisor.
- On-site attendance is essential to effectively perform the listed duties and responsibilities.
- Supervise the Log Technician.
- Responsible for performance management of direct report in accordance with company values, objectives, and policies.
- Provide mentoring, coaching, training, and support consistent with developing and sustaining a high-performing and accountable team
Qualifications / Education
- A thorough understanding of hardwood log grades, specifications, and values required.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and negotiating skills are required.
- The knowledge equivalent to that received through graduation from high school plus additional related course work in college-level courses. The equivalent knowledge gained through experience is accepted.
- Prior leadership experience.
