Infection Preventionist

Description

Will develop and oversee the Infection Prevention and Control program including establishing goals and priorities for the program, planning, and implementing strategies to achieve these goals. Will monitor the implementation of the program (including the IDT infection control practices) and will respond to any identified issues or concerns.

Tasks

  • Develop and implement infection control policies and procedures.
  • Review and update infection control policies to meet current standards.
  • Educate staff on infection control at hire, annually, and as needed.
  • Ensure infection prevention education is available to all staff, residents, and families.
  • Oversee infection surveillance and complete all required reporting.

Qualifications / Education

  • Successful completion of a State- approved training program and be currently licensed as a Registered Nurse to practice by the Pennsylvania Department of State, Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs.
  • Must maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and ensures that the facility leaders are informed of appropriate issues.
  • Must understand and comply with infection control, safety, and OSHA procedures and regulations.
  • Must be certified in Infection Prevention and Control or complete certification within 6 months of employment.
  • Must maintain specialty training in Infection Prevention and Control through accredited continuing education.
