Description

To plan, organize, develop, and direct the day-to-day functions of the nursing department in accordance with current federal and state standards, guidelines and regulations as directed by the Administrator and Medical Director to ensure that the highest level of quality care is maintained. The individual is delegated the administrative authority, and accountability necessary for carrying out the assigned duties. In the absence of the Medical Director and Administrator the individual is charged with carrying out the resident care policies established by the facility.

Tasks

  • Manage daily nursing ops per long-term care rules, regs, and facility guidelines.
  • Serve on QA, Infection Control, Compliance, QAPI, Admission, and Case Mix committees.
  • Assess and plan nursing staff levels to meet all resident care needs.
  • Help select residents for admission; advise on nursing needs and department capacity.
  • Plan and lead in-service trainings to ensure a well-educated nursing staff.

Qualifications / Education

  • The individual must have successfully completed a State-approved training program and be currently licensed as a Registered Nurse to practice by the Pennsylvania Department of State, Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs. Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long term care facilities. Must demonstrate knowledge of the aging process, possess the ability to assess the age-related needs of the residents served. Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret the programs, goals, policies and procedures that are necessary for providing quality care. Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices. Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult situations.
