Description

The Quality Control Inspector checks product to assure conformance with the National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) and with Collins’ quality standards. This position is also responsible for training lumber graders to ensure they meet hardwood lumber standards.

Tasks

  • Perform and record checks and measurements on the product during production.
  • Produce and present quality control reports on logs/sawmill/planer size statistics, operators, equipment, and grade recovery.
  • Apply the requisite grading rules of the NHLA to identify grades of lumber.
  • Promote and foster a safe working culture while adhering to and enforcing all safety rules, company rules, and OSHA regulations.
  • Work with team members to continuously improve the quality of the product with the primary goal of meeting or exceeding customer expectations.
  • Assist in the successful development of Entry Lumber Inspectors.
  • Perform additional duties as required by supervisor.
  • On-site attendance is essential to effectively perform the listed duties and responsibilities.

Qualifications / Education

  • Ability to read and understand service and technical manuals.
  • Knowledge of green and dry end lumber quality knowledge.
  • Knowledge, experience, and skills associated with appropriate computer applications.
  • Ability to self-direct and prioritize workflow.
  • High analytical ability.
