Description
To assist the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the day-to-day functions of the nursing department in accordance with current federal and state standards, guidelines and regulations as directed by the Administrator, Medical Director, and/or the Director of Nursing to ensure that the highest level of quality care is maintained. The individual is delegated the administrative authority, and accountability necessary for carrying out the assigned duties. In the absence of the Director of Nursing the individual is charged with carrying out the resident care policies established by the facility.
Tasks
- Assist DON in daily planning, organizing, evaluating, and running the nursing department.
- Help develop, update, and maintain policies that guide daily nursing department functions.
- Ensure nursing policies reflect current practices and care procedures used in the facility.
- Serve on QA, QAPI, Compliance, Restraint, Admission, Infection Control, and Case Mix teams.
- Help DON prepare nursing department reports for submission to designated committees.
Qualifications / Education
- The individual must have successfully completed a State-approved training program and be currently licensed as a Registered Nurse to practice by the Pennsylvania Department of State, Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs. Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long term care facilities. Must demonstrate knowledge of the aging process, possess the ability to assess the age-related needs of the residents served. Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret the programs, goals, policies and procedures that are necessary for providing quality care. Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices. Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult situations.
