Description

Provides recovery assistance services to Beacon Light or Forest-Warren Human Services clients living in the community. These services include transportation to obtain necessities for living such as prescriptions, groceries, and clothing. Provide assistance when requested from Forest-Warren Human Services or such tasks as light housekeeping and relocating if necessary. Provides services to consumers participating in the Decision Support Center within Beacon-Light’s adult outpatient clinic. Responsibilities include providing recovery oriented peer support, assisting the consumer in identifying Personal Medicine, writing power statements, completion of the Common Ground report and using Decision Aid Worksheets. Responsible for providing a supportive, restorative environment for consumers whose lives have been disrupted by severe mental illness in the Drop-In Center.

Tasks

  • Promote a culture of respect, cooperation, and service excellence at the center.
  • Maintain order by redirecting consumers and building supportive, professional relationships.
  • Apply recovery principles and strength-based approaches in daily interactions with consumers.
  • Learn and recognize mental health diagnoses and symptoms to assist individuals effectively.
  • Make sound day-to-day decisions and respond appropriately during crises.
  • Schedule, plan, and advertise fundraising events and other center activities.
  • Organize member meetings, including scheduling and preparing agendas.

Qualifications / Education

  • Be a self-identified individual who has received or is receiving state priority group services. Have a high school diploma or GED. Two years’ work experience in human services which must include one year of mental health direct care experience or a BA with academic concentration in an area relevant to the position. Completed and passed a Peer Specialist certification training program including written examination, which is offered in accordance with guidelines defined by OMHSAS, DPW is preferred but not required.
