Lumber Inspector Grading

Description

The Lumber Inspector applies the requisite grading rules of the NHLA to identify grades of lumber.

Tasks

  • Comply with safety standards at all times and correct/report any observed safety hazards.
  • Assign grades in a manner that is consistent with the guidelines established by the company and the NHLA. Communicate with and learn from other lumber inspectors and the Dry End Supervisor, Quality Control, and NHLA inspectors for continued education. Remain up to date on current lumber markets and product values. Mark lumber for trimming to obtain the highest marketable value from the material and verify stamp legibility.
  • Report any manufacturing defects to department supervisor. Cooperate with the inspection of completed units to ensure accuracy and profitability.
  • Assist in the successful development of Entry Lumber Inspectors. Perform additional duties as required by supervisor.
  • On-site attendance is essential to effectively perform the listed duties and responsibilities

Qualifications / Education

  • Hold a Hardwood Lumber Inspector certificate from the National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) or have the equivalent experience. Ability to follow all company, state and federal safety rules when performing required job duties.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal history check and a pre-employment drug screening.
