Description
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, the Nursing Assistant participates in the care of residents within the scope of preparation and ability in accordance with good nursing practice and applicable State and Federal regulations.
Tasks
- Assist residents with bathing, grooming, mobility, toileting, feeding, and daily personal care tasks.
- Monitor and report condition changes; chart vitals, intake/output, and care provided each shift.
- Transport residents, help with admissions, discharges, and apply braces, splints, or restraints.
- Collect specimens, weigh residents, reweigh as needed, and pass nourishments, trays, and water.
- Support activity attendance, assist with post-mortem care, and help train new or student staff.
- Perform assigned cleaning tasks, maintain a safe environment, and report safety concerns.
- Follow infection control protocols and attend required meetings, in-services, and trainings.
Qualifications / Education
- Must be certified by the State of PA or be enrolled in a state approved training program
- Must possess the ability to compute and record intake and output amounts
- Must possess knowledge of: medical asepsis, body mechanics, personal care of residents, correct use and care of equipment, observation techniques, reporting and recording
- Must be willing to possess knowledge of and comply with regulations, policies, procedures, contract and philosophy of the institution
- Must maintain a courteous and professional manner toward residents, visitors and co-workers and a dedication to meet the needs of the elderly
- Must have awareness of cost containment, utilize time fully, and properly care for equipment
- Must possess ability to accept and follow written and verbal directives
- Must utilize good communication and observation skills
- Must be able to read and write
