Description
Responsible for operating and maintaining the sanding system to ensure panels meet required thickness, surface quality, and smoothness specs. Role involves monitoring sanding belt performance, adjusting process parameters, and troubleshooting equipment issues to maintain efficiency and minimize waste. Plays a key role in ensuring the final product meets customer and production standards while adhering to safety and environmental regulations.
Tasks
- Operate and monitor sanding system to ensure proper thickness, surface finish, and quality.
- Inspect panels for defects like snipe, ChatterĀ®, or uneven sanding, making adjustments as needed.
- Monitor sanding belts for proper tension, alignment, and replace when necessary.
- Clear blockages, remove dust buildup, and maintain dust collection systems.
- Collaborate with press and finishing operators to ensure smooth material flow and minimize defects.
- Conduct routine inspections and assist maintenance with troubleshooting and repairs.
- Record process data, including thickness measurements, belt usage, and downtime causes.
Qualifications / Education
- High School Diploma or GED
- Six months or more of work experience
- Experience in a wood products manufacturing environment
- Experience working in an industrial and/or manufacturing environment
- Experience in material handling, forklift operation, production operation, machine operation, or utility
- Experience using a computer for record-keeping and documentation functions
