Description
The Lumber Inspector applies the requisite grading rules of the NHLA to identify grades of lumber.
Tasks
- Comply with safety standards at all times and correct/report any observed safety hazards.
- Assign grades in a manner that is consistent with the guidelines established by the company and the NHLA.
- Communicate with and learn from other lumber inspectors and the Dry End Supervisor, Quality Control, and NHLA inspectors for continued education.
- Remain up to date on current lumber markets and product values.
- Mark lumber for trimming to obtain the highest marketable value from the material and verify stamp legibility.
- Report any manufacturing defects to department supervisor.
- Cooperate with the inspection of completed units to ensure accuracy and profitability.
- Assist in the successful development of Entry Lumber Inspectors.
- Perform additional duties as required by supervisor.
- On-site attendance is essential to effectively perform the listed duties and responsibilities
Qualifications / Education
- Hold a Hardwood Lumber Inspector certificate from the National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) or have the equivalent experience.
- Ability to follow all company, state and federal safety rules when performing required job duties.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal history check and a pre-employment drug screening.
