Description
A prosthodontist is a licensed dentist that specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, design and fit of prostheses (crowns, bridges, dentures, and dental implants) that maintain oral function, health, and appearance for patients with clinical conditions associated with teeth, oral and maxillofacial tissues, or the jaw.
Tasks
- Design and fit crowns, bridges, and dentures.
- Place and restore dental implants.
- Work on aesthetic restorations (e.g., full mouth reconstruction).
- Manage cases of severe tooth wear or congenital defects.
Qualifications / Education
- DDS or DMD degree.
- Completion of a 3-year residency in prosthodontics.
- Board certification is available but optional.
