Description
An oral pathologist is a licensed dentist that specializes in the diagnosis of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial regions, including cancers, autoimmune diseases, and infections.
Tasks
- Examine and interpret tissue biopsies.
- Diagnose oral cancers and other diseases through histopathological analysis.
- Consult with dental professionals on plans for patients with complex medical or dental conditions.
Qualifications / Education
- DDS or DMD degree.
- Completion of a 3-year residency in oral and maxillofacial pathology.
- Board certification is available.
