Description

An oral pathologist is a licensed dentist that specializes in the diagnosis of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial regions, including cancers, autoimmune diseases, and infections.

Tasks

  • Examine and interpret tissue biopsies.
  • Diagnose oral cancers and other diseases through histopathological analysis.
  • Consult with dental professionals on plans for patients with complex medical or dental conditions.

Qualifications / Education

  • DDS or DMD degree.
  • Completion of a 3-year residency in oral and maxillofacial pathology.
  • Board certification is available.
