Description

An oral surgeon is a licensed dentist that specializes in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of conditions involving the mouth, teeth, jaws, and face. May perform surgery treat diseases, injuries, or to improve function or appearance.

Tasks

  • Perform tooth extractions, including wisdom teeth removal.
  • Manage trauma cases (fractures, facial injuries).
  • Perform corrective jaw surgeries (orthognathic surgery)..
  • Treat oral cancer and other diseases of the head and neck.

Qualifications / Education

  • DDS or DMD degree.
  • Completion of a 4-6 year oral and maxillofacial surgery residency program.
  • Board certification required for practice.
