Description

An endodontist is a licensed dentist that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of the dental pulp and the tissues surrounding the root of a tooth, most commonly performing root canal therapy.

Tasks

  • Diagnose and treat pulp infections, abscesses, and inflammation.
  • Perform root canal procedures and re-treatment.
  • Surgical procedures like apicoectomy (removal of the tip of the root) if necessary.

Qualifications / Education

  • DDS or DMD degree.
  • Completion of a 2-3 year postdoctoral residency program in endodontics.
  • Board certification is available but optional.
