Description
An endodontist is a licensed dentist that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of the dental pulp and the tissues surrounding the root of a tooth, most commonly performing root canal therapy.
Tasks
- Diagnose and treat pulp infections, abscesses, and inflammation.
- Perform root canal procedures and re-treatment.
- Surgical procedures like apicoectomy (removal of the tip of the root) if necessary.
Qualifications / Education
- DDS or DMD degree.
- Completion of a 2-3 year postdoctoral residency program in endodontics.
- Board certification is available but optional.
