Description

A leadman is a working supervisor responsible for directing a small crew, coordinating daily tasks, and ensuring safety compliance in industries like construction, manufacturing, or film. They act as the liaison between workers and management, managing tools, materials, and workflow to meet project timelines. 

Tasks

  • A leadman typically works alongside the crew while supervising, whereas a foreman focuses more on overall project management.
  • Leadership & Supervision: Leads a team (often 3-5 people) in day-to-day operations, providing technical guidance and training.
  • Workflow Coordination: Responsible for organizing, planning, and laying out work, ensuring materials and tools are available at the job site.
  • Safety & Compliance:
     Ensures the team adheres to safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and company policies.
Reporting: Reports directly to a foreman, supervisor, or manager regarding progress, and often maintains field paperwork like timesheets.

Qualifications / Education

  • Minimum high school diploma with commerical construction background
