Yard Manager

Provides general supervision for all yard functions including load building, physical receiving, stock & facilities protection and general yard maintenance and housekeeping. The Yard Manager is also responsible for the supply, maintenance, and use of the center's banding equipment. This position is responsible for overseeing and maintaining safe general practices and security in the yard area.

• Supervises unloading, verification, and storage of shipments, recording freight or vendor claims.
• Reviews yard conditions and suggests improvements to the Location or Assistant Manager.
• Ensures proper tagging and storage of special-order yard merchandise.
• Trains new associates in load building, safety, stock protection, and banding techniques.
• Oversees daily forklift and yard equipment maintenance per company guidelines.
• Supervises yard housekeeping efforts.
• Ensures stock protection, safety, and loss prevention in the yard and adjacent areas.

• Basic supervisory experience. Ability to reason; concepts such as proper and safe loading practices. Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts in order to calculate order quantities and convert board footage and load weights. A minimum of two years’ experience in industry related load bunking, general yard or yard practices and supervisory functions. The person in this position must be able to complete a forklift operator’s certification. Knowledge of building materials.
